Physicians and Physician Assistants
Ohio physicians may evaluate patients, establish the diagnosis and treatment plan, prescribe, and perform botulinum toxin and dermal filler procedures within lawful medical practice and their competence. A physician assistant may evaluate, participate in treatment planning, order, and administer treatment only within the PA’s supervision agreement, delegated authority, education, and competence.
Nurse Practitioners and Other Qualifying APRNs
An Ohio certified nurse practitioner or other qualifying APRN must practice within the applicable role, prescriptive authority, and standard-care-arrangement requirements. When authorized, the APRN may evaluate the patient, establish the treatment plan, issue an order, and perform injectable procedures within documented education and competence.
Registered Nurses
An Ohio RN may administer medications and treatments pursuant to a valid order when the activity is within nursing scope and the RN has documented procedure-specific competence. The RN does not independently diagnose, prescribe, select the injectable medication, or select the dosage. An authorized provider must evaluate the patient and establish the treatment plan before administration.
Dentists
Ohio has no specific Botox or dermal filler dental rule, permit, credential, or Board-approved course. Any use by a dentist must fall within the statutory scope of dentistry under Ohio Revised Code 4715.01 and conform to accepted professional standards. Course attendance and CE do not independently establish or expand dental scope.
Who May Attend Ohio Botox and Dermal Filler Training?
Ohio Level I and Level II Botox, botulinum toxin, and dermal filler courses, as well as focused masterclasses, are intended for eligible physicians (MD/DO), physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners and other qualifying APRNs, registered nurses, and dentists seeking education in aesthetic injectable procedures.
MedAesthetics Training requires hands-on participants to hold an active Ohio professional license, an active multistate nursing privilege recognized in Ohio, or other lawful authorization permitting participation. Ohio is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so an eligible RN whose primary state of residence is another compact state may be able to participate under an active multistate privilege, subject to Ohio law and an unencumbered privilege.
Eligibility to attend training and authority to provide injectable services after training are separate. Dentist attendance is for education and continuing dental education; it does not establish authority to perform cosmetic facial injections. Every participant remains responsible for the scope, assessment, prescribing, ordering, supervision, collaboration, competency, and practice-setting requirements applicable to the participant’s license.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
† This self-paced activity includes a required post-test. Ohio recognizes supervised self-instruction when a board-approved sponsor supplies and grades a test, the licensee earns a passing score of at least 75%, and the results are returned to the licensee (OAC 4715-8-01(A)(2)). Confirm how these hours apply to your own renewal.
Ohio requires dentists to complete at least 30 continuing education hours every two years. Ohio recognizes AGD PACE providers in good standing, but each dentist remains responsible for determining whether a specific activity satisfies Ohio renewal requirements.

Where are Ohio Botox and dermal filler courses held?
Courses are offered in select Ohio locations, including Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, with cities and dates varying throughout the year. Review the upcoming course schedule for currently available dates and locations.
Who may attend Ohio Botox and dermal filler training?
Ohio training is available to eligible physicians, certified nurse practitioners and other qualifying APRNs, physician assistants, registered nurses, and dentists. Hands-on participants must hold an active Ohio license, qualifying multistate nursing privilege, or other lawful authorization permitting participation.
Can an Ohio registered nurse inject Botox and dermal fillers?
An Ohio RN may administer medications and treatments pursuant to a valid order when the activity is within nursing scope and the applicable practice requirements are met. The RN does not independently diagnose, prescribe, select the injectable medication, or select the dosage. May Ohio dentists attend Botox and dermal filler training?
Yes. Ohio dentists may attend MedAesthetics Training courses for education and continuing dental education when applicable. The Ohio State Dental Board has advised that there is no law or rule in the Dental Practice Act directly addressing the use of Botox or dermal fillers. When a dentist uses these products, the use must fall within the scope of dentistry under Ohio Revised Code 4715.01 and conform to accepted standards for the profession. The Board does not issue a Botox or dermal filler permit or credential and does not require or approve a specific Botox or dermal filler course. Course attendance does not independently establish or expand a dentist’s legal scope of practice.
