MD/DO — Physicians
Kentucky-licensed physicians may assess patients, prescribe treatment, and perform botulinum toxin and dermal filler procedures consistent with their education, training, clinical competence, and lawful medical practice. No aesthetic-injection-specific advisory opinion applies to physicians; general medical practice-act obligations and KBML standards govern.

Physician Assistants
A Kentucky PA practices under a Kentucky-licensed supervising physician and may perform only the medical services and procedures included in the scope approved by KBML. The Board’s supervising-physician materials state that a supplemental application for additional services and procedures is submitted after the PA has completed the relevant training — so a PA can complete MedAesthetics training before the PA and supervising physician request approval to add injectable procedures to the PA’s scope.

Nurse Practitioners and APRNs
The Kentucky Board of Nursing recognizes APRNs as licensed independent practitioners. Under AOS #35, an APRN may provide aesthetic services when the procedures are consistent with the APRN’s certified role and population focus (CNP, CNS, CNM, and CRNA roles are each separately addressed in AOS #35) and the APRN has the required education, experience, and clinical competence. Before prescribing treatment, the APRN must maintain required prescriptive authority (CAPA-NS or an applicable exemption), establish the practitioner-patient relationship, complete the appropriate assessment and treatment plan, and comply with applicable practice standards. AOS #35’s best-practices guidance also recommends that a qualified healthcare provider with cosmetic/dermatologic training supervise novice injectors on-site until they are clinically competent and safe.

Registered Nurses
Kentucky RNs may perform cosmetic and dermatological procedures, including injectable procedures, as part of a medically prescribed plan of care and under the supervision of a qualified healthcare provider. AOS #35 requires that a qualified healthcare provider complete the initial assessment/evaluation and develop the treatment plan before an RN implements treatment, and states the prescribing or supervising provider should have the knowledge and ability to perform the procedure independently. RNs may implement standing orders or protocols established by a qualified provider but may not independently practice, order products, or prescribe treatments. AOS #35 defines supervision as the qualified provider being physically on the premises or readily available by telephone.

Dentists — DDS/DMD
The Kentucky Board of Dentistry permits appropriately licensed and competently trained dentists to administer Botox and dermal fillers when the treatment falls within the scope of dentistry. Kentucky law (KRS 313.010) defines dentistry to include treatment involving the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and adjacent and associated structures when performed within the dentist’s education, training, and experience. Dentist participants remain responsible for limiting clinical treatment to that scope; course completion does not authorize every aesthetic indication or treatment area covered in a multidisciplinary medical course.

Who May Attend Kentucky Botox and Dermal Filler Training?
Kentucky Level I and Level II training, and focused masterclasses, are open to licensed physicians (MD/DO), physician assistants, nurse practitioners and APRNs, registered nurses, and dentists who hold an active professional license or other lawful authorization permitting hands-on participation in Kentucky.
For nurses, this may include a Kentucky license, a valid multistate nursing compact privilege, or another authorization recognized under Kentucky law. APRNs, physician assistants, physicians, and dentists must independently satisfy the Kentucky licensure requirements applicable to their professions.

How MedAesthetics Training Verifies Every Attendee
Every registrant attests to, and MedAesthetics reviews, an active Kentucky license, a valid multistate compact privilege, or another lawful authorization before hands-on participation is confirmed. Pharmacists are not accepted for hands-on injectable training, as a company-wide policy regardless of state law.
Preparing to Practice in Kentucky After Training
The Kentucky Board of Nursing’s Advisory Opinion Statement #35, revised in June 2026, addresses the roles and responsibilities of nurses performing cosmetic and dermatological procedures. It emphasizes appropriate education, documented clinical competency, a medically prescribed plan of care when required, and practice conditions appropriate to the clinician’s license. The Board identifies the advisory opinion as guidance on safe nursing practice rather than a statute or regulation.
The Kentucky Board of Dentistry states that dentists may administer Botox or dermal fillers when they are competently trained and use the procedures to treat conditions within the lawful scope of dentistry. Kentucky law defines dentistry to include treatment involving the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and adjacent and associated structures when performed within the dentist’s education, training, and experience.
Course participation and clinical-practice authorization are separate. These requirements generally relate to clinical practice after training. Before providing injectable services, clinicians must satisfy the assessment, treatment-planning, prescribing, supervision, approved-scope, protocol, competency, and practice-setting requirements applicable to their professional licenses.
Assessment, Treatment Plan, and Supervision Under KBN AOS #35
Under the Kentucky Board of Nursing’s Advisory Opinion Statement #35 (AOS #35), a qualified healthcare provider should perform and document the initial assessment or evaluation and develop the treatment plan before a nurse implements an aesthetic treatment. The prescribing or supervising provider should have the knowledge and ability to perform the procedure independently.
For an RN, AOS #35 defines supervision as the qualified healthcare provider being physically on the premises or readily available by telephone. The advisory opinion also recommends that novice injectors receive on-site supervision from a qualified healthcare provider with cosmetic or dermatological training until the injector is considered clinically competent and safe.
