Does our Botulinum Toxin and dermal filler training course include Botox? (Spoilers: yes, it does!)
August 01, 2024A common question we get asked is if our Botulinum Toxin and dermal filler training course includes Botox training and certification. And the answer is absolutely yes!
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. You can even see the name is just a shortening of “botulinum toxin.” Botox was the first form of botulinum toxin on the cosmetic market, and it became the common name for this kind of treatment.
This is called genericization or genericide, when a trademarked name becomes the common name. Think Q-tips, Kleenex, or Band-Aid. Q-tips are just cotton swabs, Kleenex are just tissues, and Band-aids are just bandages.
There are other botulinum toxin products, such as Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify, and Jeuveau. And they are growing in popularity for reasons we’ll get into.
So, what exactly is Botulinum Toxin, and how is it different from dermal filler?
Botulinum is a family of neurotoxins, designated A through G. Type A is by far the most commonly used in cosmetic medicine, but the others have some medical uses.
Botulinum removes wrinkles by binding to the nerve endings that connect to muscles. This prevents the nerves from signaling the muscles to contract. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, add volume under the skin, filling in wrinkles.
The key takeaway is that botulinum toxin works best for dynamic wrinkles (crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines). Dermal filler works best for static wrinkles (cheeks, lips, under-eyes, and nasolabial folds).
What are the other botulinum toxin products that you can become certified in once you complete our comprehensive training course?
Our course provides training and potential certification* for Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify, and Jeuveau. All of these contain botulinum toxin type A as the active ingredient. Those aside from Botox are growing in popularity because they offer unique advantages.
For example, Xeomin does not require refrigerated storage like the others. Daxxify uses a unique chemical formula for improved efficiency and stability. Jeuveau uses a streamlined manufacturing process, which makes it more cost-effective.
*The reason we say potential certification is because certification guidelines vary from state to state.
In conclusion, there’s a lot to learn about botulinum toxins!
So don’t limit yourself to just Botox. Get the hands-on experience you need to succeed in aesthetic medicine.
